The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently placed third on the points table with 14 points from 13 matches. RCB face Delhi Daredevils in their last league match and if they manage to win, the Bangalore-based franchise will qualify for play-offs.
Kohli has led from the front and is the leading cause of RCB’s resurgence. The right-hander has scored865 runs this season so far, including four centuries. Kohli also became the first batsman to register 800 runs in a single season of the IPL.

Kohli might match Tendulkar: Michael Hussey - Full Interview By Michael Hussey

Kohli might match Tendulkar: Michael Hussey

 by Shilarze Saharoy •
"One of Tendulkar's greatest strengths was his longevity and if Kohli can stay fit, he could be well on his way to emulate Tendulkar." © BCCI
Michael Hussey was very much a part of the Indian Premier League till the last season. This year, the 41-year-old isn't playing but is a part of the commentary team. He has been offered the Indian coaching job a couple of times but he has refused to take it up till now. Hussey has done a bit of coaching, though, with the South African team. During a chat, he spoke about a range of issues and waxed eloquent on the brilliance of Virat Kohli. Excerpts:
You juggle between commentary and coaching assignments and look as fit as any of the present-day cricketers. Has Mr. Cricket truly retired?
It feels great to be involved with the game. I am preparing as well as I can for the Caribbean Premier League later on.
Do you miss playing in IPL?
Yes, of course. I love being part of a team and working together for a common goal. You build up many friendships in the dressing room also.
In this IPL, we have seen a trend of teams chasing successfully and experienced players calling the shots.
I feel it just takes out one uncertain variable in the match i.e. what is a good score. When you chase you know exactly what you need to win the game. I feel the pitches are also getting better and more consistent so teams aren't concerned about changing conditions anymore. Twenty20 ties are always high-pressure games. So the experienced players have a better chance of performing consistently as they have handled pressure before.
As a coach, you have worked with Steve Smith and AB de Villiers. Share with us your experience of working with them.
I simply love watching them bat. The one difference that I noticed was that Smith loves to bat and bat and bat in the nets in the lead up to a match whereas De Villiers prefers to get his skill preparation done and then makes sure he is physically and mentally fresh. But then, not too many can bat like the way De Villiers does.
Besides these two, it's Virat Kohli who's grabbing all the attention. Your take?
He has evolved into an amazing player. These three are all probably at a stage now where they know their game inside and out and they stick to it as it has given them so much success over the years.
After Kohli played a match-winning knock against Australia in the World T20, comparisons are being made between him and Sachin Tendulkar.
That was a wonderful innings and sometimes, much like when Tendulkar was playing, you just have to say you were beaten by a better man on the day. One of Tendulkar's greatest strengths was his longevity and if Kohli can stay fit, he could be well on his way to emulate Tendulkar as a player.

Virat Kohli's tactical brilliance leaves Shane Watson in awe - "Virat is extremely open to our thoughts and opinions on certain things" Says Shane Watson

Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Shane Watson thanked skipper Virat Kohli for using his bowling skills well in the ongoing ninth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Shane Watson has hit a purple patch after joining the franchise this year. The former Australia star produced a brilliant spell of medium-pace bowling last night to help his team register a thrilling one-run victory over Kings XI Punjab. (Full IPL Coverage/Points Table)

Kings XI needed 24 runs off the last two overs and Watson bowled the penultimate over giving away just seven runs to swing the match in RCB's favor. He finished with figures of 2 for 22 off his full quota of four overs and was adjudged Man of the Match for a sterling performance that kept his team's chances alive in the IPL.
Experience paying off for RCB
The 34-year-old, who joined RCB this season, lauded his skipper Virat Kohli after the match and said that the combined experience of Kohli, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle has had a terrific impact on his performance on the field.
"To have AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle as starting point as well, with all their experience and knowledge on the game of cricket is helpful. Virat gets the best out of everything that we have got.
"So I think we are very privileged here at RCB to have so much of quality experience and knowledge on the game of cricket. So (we'll) just try and continue to get the best of ourselves," Watson told iplt20.com after a gripping contest played at the PCA stadium in Mohali.
'Kohli open to different ideas'
Praising his skipper, Watson said that Kohli as a leader, is brilliant with his tactics on the field, "Virat is extremely open to our thoughts and opinions on certain things. He has always got some thoughts and tactically he is very good as well. Virat has been using me in one over spells early on in the innings and then more towards the back end depending on where it suits the team the most. I am happy to bowl anywhere Virat (needs me)."
"He instills lot of confidence in me, he lets me sort of choose the balls and allows me to set my fields accordingly as well - with his input a lot of the time as well. It's been great to work under him and he's using me very nicely. So I'm having a lot of fun doing it," he added. (Shane Watson stars as Bangalore beat Punjab by 1 run)
Humble Watson
The 19th over bowled by Watson actually helped Chris Jordan defend 17 runs off the last over. But as one of the senior pros in the side, Watson chose to give credit to the other bowlers.
"I think just about every over is very crucial. The way the games pan out if you are able to hold momentum or to get a bit of momentum go your way at any stage - whether it is batting innings or the bowling
innings - every over really counts.
"So I don't see that (19th) over being any more important than the others that I have bowled throughout the time."

Virat Kohli launches Premier Futsal nationwide talent hunt

'Premier Futsal Launchpad', the talent hunt will kick off on May 26th in Mumbai, taking place in seven other cities across the country before it concludes on June 21st in New Delhi.

Bangalore, May 12: Premier Futsal league ambassador Virat Kohli today launched a nationwide talent hunt to identify and pick the top local talent to play in the inaugural season of the world’s first-ever multi-national futsal league here. Dubbed ‘Premier Futsal Launchpad’, the talent hunt will kick off on May 26th in Mumbai, taking place in seven other cities across the country before it concludes on June 21st in New Delhi. The talent hunt will pick a total of 40 players five per city who will go on to represent their home cities in the league.
Kohli said, “The launch of Premier Futsal is a massive shot in the arm for Indian sport. We’ve seen India’s appetite for different sports growing over the last few years and I’m sure a sport as exciting, competitive and riveting as futsal will strike a chord with sports fans here. “I think the talent hunt is a great initiative which will nurture local talent and help futsal establish itself firmly among India’s most followed sports.” Premier Futsal Chairman, Xavier Britto said, “The Premier Futsal League is a unique concept in that it’s the only multi-national futsal league in the world. “But even as the league will have the best global futsalling and footballing talent on display, we are committed to driving the holistic development of the sport through the creation of a strong base of local players.”
Alessandro Rosa Vieira ‘Falcao’ said, “I think the concept holds a lot of promise and has the potential to grow what is a truly spectacular, fast-paced game in a major way in India. While I’m really looking forward to testing my skills against the world’s best futsal and football players, I’m equally excited to be measuring myself against the best India has to offer.” The talent hunt is open to any applicants between 18 to 24 years of age. Aspiring futsallers can register to be part of the talent hunt online or on the spot at select sports clubs and colleges across the eight cities that Premier Futsal will be visiting.
Applicants will be put through their paces at a three-day camp in each city, where they will be evaluated for physical fitness and mental agility, and technical attributes like flair, creativity, positioning, dribbling, passing and tackling. About 25 most promising candidates from each city will then advance to a three-week boot camp in Mumbai, where they will train along with international players, before five from each city are chosen to represent their home side in the league.
